Summary

This paper explored how family carers of people living with dementia that now reside in long term care deal with significant changes, and provides background on how to best support these carers. This is due to the nature of these carers' roles and relationships changing, which can affect both their mental and physical health. Some of the most significant changes carers dealt with were: building new relationships with their family member, LTC staff, and those outside of LTC; and finding space for themselves, sharing care work, and finding a balance.
