Long Summary

This collection of free online multimedia resources was co-designed and co-created with and for defence and veteran, first responder, and remote worker families with children aged 2-8 years. These children may experience unique challenges, such as prolonged periods of separation, frequent relocation, and family role adaptations. As such, many resources view family and community through a socio-ecological lens, and are written from a strengths-based resilience model.

    Key Messages for Carers

  • Children of parents who work away can experience physical, emotional, social, and cognitive challenges, such as disrupted sleep, clinginess, social isolation, and difficulty concentrating.
  • These resources are designed to build strength and resilience in children so they can cope and understand these complex challenges

  • Key Messages for Policy Makers

  • These unique challenges may have an impact on children's development in early years and school years.
  • There is a current shortage of resources that are age and culturally appropriate for parents, educators, carers, support workers, and counsellors. This program aims to help with that.
