Long Summary

This article provides an analysis of literature and primary research regarding young people who are informal carers. The article concludes that young carers form their caring role through three interconnected circumstances including routinising care by young people as ‘normal’, adult carers being unavailable in the family network, and formal services failing to provide appropriate and affordable access.
