Using a ‘cultures of care’ framework, this research article provides a comparative analysis of the differing cultural understandings of ‘volunteer carers’ in Australia and Denmark. The research found that there are different cultural ideals surrounding care that reflect the historical development and contemporary nature of each of their welfare systems.
