Summary

This article shares first-hand the lived experience of Imelda Gilmore who cared for her husband with young-onset Alzheimer’s disease. Documenting the challenges associated with providing person-centered care, Gilmore argues the need for formal and informal supports alike to provide care that is unique to the needs and values of the care recipient.
