Long Summary

This Podcast details Kristine Rawlinson’s journey as a Carer. The podcast begins by describing her transition into the role of a carer, to where she is today in that care journey. It details the many difficulties and teething points on the carer journey. This is a detailed and honest account of a family let down by the systems put in place to support carers and their loved ones. Kristine has a very realistic view on her situation and does not shy away from difficult discussions. Her background as a healthcare provider offers a perspective that has witnessed both sides of care and the many holes within the system. This is an emotional, thought provoking, raw, and impactful retelling of a family’s journey that is highly recommend for researchers, policy makers, carers or anyone curious about the world of care. Your mind and heart will be opened by this podcast.

    Key Messages for Carers

  • You’re not alone in your struggles
  • The care journey is hard and often invisible
  • The system is failing you, you aren’t failing

  • Key Messages for Policy Makers

  • The NDIS needs to be more streamlined and approachable for carers to navigate
  • There needs to be more support in the transitions of care, especially in the first stages
  • There is so much support for the care recipient, but very minimal guidance offered to the person who is now responsible for their day to day care
