Long Summary

This study examined the severe impact of Australia's strict COVID-19 public health measures on end-of-life care and bereavement practices. These measures, designed to reduce infection rates, led to isolation and disrupted support for families and friends of the deceased. Support services moved online, while mental health services faced overwhelming demand. This situation has raised concerns about the significant negative mental health consequences for individuals, the healthcare system, and society. The study aimed to understand these experiences, identify mental health and support needs, and contribute to future pandemic policy planning by addressing pre-existing systemic issues through collaboration with stakeholders and multicultural healthcare workers.
