This article explores the experiences of sole mothers who care for a child with a disability with a particular focus on how this role impacts their ability to participate in paid work. Using qualitative methods, this study indicated that sole parents are less likely to engage in paid work. The study discusses a number of difficulties faced by women who are trying to balance their work life with their carer and parental responsibilities.
