The study revealed that parental disability may be an important way for service providers to better identify and subsequently support young carers.

    Key Messages for Carers

  • Recognises the substantial impact that caring can have on the lives of young carers
  • Overcomes the limited understanding that service providers have regarding how parental disability is associated with young caring

  • Key Messages for Policy Makers

  • Service providers can more accurately identify young carers by first identifying the child or adolescent's parental disability trajectory
  • These findings could be integrated into services to better support the needs of young carers
