Long Summary

This editorial explores multiple dimensions of the role of informal carers in health care. In this paper, destination therapy left ventricular assist devices (LVAD) care is used as a case study to highlight the dependence on family caregiving in health care provision and highlights some of the benefits and burdens that carers experience in this context. This article also provides insight into ways in which the caregiver experience could be improved and explores the physical, social, psychological, and financial implications of caregiving.
