Summary

The 2014 Carers NSW Carer Survey was completed by 1,684 carers and collected information about the experience of carers in NSW with the aim of informing the organisation’s direction and to improve support and systemic advocacy for carers. In addition to many other findings, the report found that approx. 1 in 3 carers has experienced long-term illness or disability themselves in the last 12 months, that carer wellbeing was lower than that of the general population and that many respondents indicated that they did not have anyone to assist them in their caring role. In spite of this, many carers framed their reasons for caring in a positive way and consistently emphasised the positive value of being a carer.
